Our Design Process
Below is an outline of our comprehensive design process undertaken for most projects, however we do also offer a number of specialty services listed at the bottom of the page.
Consultation.
The first step for every project is an initial consultation, either onsite or online with Director and Landscape Designer, Jason Martino.
This is the opportunity to speak in detail about your project brief and for us to provide tailored advice for your garden space. We will guide you in terms of design suggestions, material or plant options and preliminary planning approval considerations.
Following the consultation, Jason will have an even better understanding of your site and client brief and will be able to prepare a design proposal for your project.
Concept Design.
The concept design is the most critical and involved stage of the landscape design process.
Once all the site information is collected, the design development can begin. Initially a preliminary design layout for the entire area is created through hand sketching, then further refined and documented via CAD software.
A draft landscape concept package is prepared specific to your project requirements and presented for client review and feedback.
Quoting.
Etch Landscape Design is a design only consultancy studio, however we can usually recommend a landscape contractor who we trust will be a good fit for your project.
These are landscapers that we work closely with and have collectively achieved great results in the past.
We will introduce you to the landscape contractor in order for them to provide a quote to build your design.
Approvals.
Your project may not require any planning approval for construction and fall under Exempt Development, and therefore proceed to be constructed by an external landscape contractor.
Should your project require planning approval via Complying Development Certificate (CDC) or council Development Application (DA), we are able to assist you with this process.
These requirements will be discussed throughout the design stage of your project.
Construction Documentation
+ Project Coordination.
Our concept designs are highly resolved to help our clients understand the our vision and to allow the landscape contractor to quote. Many of our projects do however benefit from further resolution of design detail which is communicated via construction documentation. These extra drawings and specifications ensure we receive the best outcome for your project.
During the construction of your project by the landscape contractor, we can provide consultancy services through project coordination. This often includes site visits at key checkpoints, assisting with the ordering of plants and bespoke elements, and problem solving with the client or contractor.
